Sabato 11 e domenica 12 maggio si è svolto, a Rimini, il XII Congresso dell’Unione degli atei e degli agnostici razionalisti (Uaar).
Ai lavori hanno partecipato 167 soci che hanno eletto come nuovo segretario Roberto Grendene, con quasi il 60% dei voti. Nel Comitato di Coordinamento sono stati eletti, oltre a Grendene, Adele Orioli, Elisa Corteggiani, Paul Manoni, Giorgio Maone, Massimo Maiurana, Cinzia Visciano, Rosanna Lavagna e Manuel Bianco. Per il collegio dei probiviri sono stati eletti Gabriella Bertuccioli, Flaviana Rizzi e Daniel Saiani Campostrini.
«In 30 anni — ha dichiarato Grendene, che in precedenza ha ricoperto l’incarico di responsabile nazionale campagne — l’Uaar è diventata punto di riferimento fondamentale per i dieci milioni di atei e agnostici sul territorio nazionale (dove è presente in 57 province). Ma non solo: siamo infatti in prima linea anche nelle battaglie per i diritti civili laici, che non riguardano “solo” atei e agnostici, ma tutta la popolazione. Battaglie su cui non indietreggeremo di un passo e a cui affiancheremo nuove sfide».
Tra le azioni su cui puntare nel prossimo futuro il neosegretario ha annunciato l’impegno per la promozione della cultura scientifica e della filosofia con i bambini.

UAAR’s 12th Congress: stronger in Italy, ready for new challenges
12 May 2019 – 167 delegates, elected by the almost 4000 members of the Italian Union of Rationalist Atheists and Agnostics (Unione degli Atei e degli Agnostici Razionalisti, UAAR), gathered in Rimini (IT) last week-end for their 12th National Congress. After the opening speeches by the outgoing Secretary Adele Orioli and the EHF President Giulio Ercolessi, the assembly started an intense two-days work marathon to update the organization’s statutory documents (for instance, with more explicit statements against racism and gender identity discrimination) and to elect the executive committee which will be in charge for the next 3 years.
The new Secretary, Roberto Grendene, elected among 3 candidates with about 60% of the votes, said: “During the 30 years of its activity, UAAR has become a beacon for 10 millions of atheists and agnostics all over Italy (we’re present in 57 metropolitan areas). Furthermore, we fight on the front line for the secular civil rights. Our battles are not for atheists and agnostics only: they benefit all the people. We’re going to keep fighting them with no step back, and we’re ready to take on new challenges.”
Among the immediate priorities Grendene and his team pointed out: a stronger commitment to spread scientific culture and critical thinking; introducing philosophy for kids as an alternative to confessional teachings in the schools; opposing xenophobia and racism as well as confessionalism and toxic multiculturalism, in the name of Human Rights and against the politics of division.
