Press Conference “Nomina Contra Deum”

The Uaar, in collaboration with Kawabanga Productions and Aristodemica publishing house, presents Luca De Gaspari’s documentary on blasphemy at the national headquarters of the Uaar, with Roberto Grendene and Federico Tulli on Saturday September 28th at 5:00 pm in via Francesco Negri 67/69, in Rome.

Blasphemy: a taboo that within certain countries in the world can lead to imprisonment or to a death sentence. In Italy, until 1999, blasphemy was considered a crime. Nowadays, blasphemy is still considered an administrative offense. On Saturday 28th of September 2024 at 5:00 pm, the Uaar’s headquarters in via Francesco Negri 67/69 (Rome) will host the press conference that will present the documentary Nomia Contra Deum with an exclusive screening tailored to the journalists. The authors will discuss the film with Uaar’s secretary Roberto Grendene, and journalist Federico Tulli.

The docufilm Nomina Contra Deum, which the Uaar supports and promotes given its ability to offer its audiences a multidisciplinary and in-depth view, is directed by Luca De Gaspari, coordinated by Alessandro Groppo, with consulting from Antonello Fabio Caterino and Marco Brando, and is produced by Kawabanga in collaboration with Aristodemica publishing house.

Nomina Contra Deum tackles with courage and scientific rigor the complex phenomenon of blasphemy. In doing so, ‘Nomina Contra Deum’ explores blasphemy’s historical roots, cultural transformations and its impact in contemporary society. In a cultural context such as the Italian one, which is fundamentally influenced by the catholic tradition, blasphemy represents a controversial, yet under-studied, theme. This documentary aims to fill the aforementioned gap, offering the public a multidisciplinary and in-depth view of the phenomenon.

«The Romans were right: the gods must deal with insults to the gods – comments Roberto Grendene, secretary of the Uaar – and we expect that even the defenders of our traditions and roots recognize such. History and current events are a testament to the harm that occurs when states concern themselves with blasphemy. In light of everybody’s freedom, believers and non-believers alike, it is now time to abolish in Italy, too, the laws that protect religious sentiments».
